UAE To Celebrate Emirati Women's Day Tomorrow, Honouring Achievements In Gender Equality
The UAE will commemorate "Emirati Women's Day" on August 28, Wednesday, celebrating the significant achievements and contributions of Emirati women to the nation's progress.
The UAE has made notable advances in gender equality, ranking seventh globally and first regionally in the Gender Inequality Index 2024 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This day underscores the country's progress in women's empowerment and highlights the importance of ongoing development in this area.

In recent years, the UAE has introduced numerous laws and legislative amendments affecting various aspects of women's lives. These include work, protection, political participation, and personal status. Such reforms have elevated women's status and bolstered the UAE's global competitiveness.
The theme for this year's Emirati Women's Day is "We share for tomorrow." This follows directives from HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF). The theme reflects the UAE's commitment to a collaborative approach to progress, involving all societal segments in achieving its vision.
Gender Balance Strategy 2022-2026
Two years ago, the UAE adopted the Gender Balance Strategy 2022-2026. This strategy aims to position the UAE as a global model for gender balance. It includes four main pillars: economic participation and entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, well-being and quality of life, protection, and global leadership and partnerships.
Emirati Women's Day annually showcases the advanced strides made by the UAE in empowering women. It enhances their honourable image through their achievements across various fields.
The goal is to move beyond closing gender gaps and exploring best practices to positioning the country as an exporter of best gender balance practices. The focus is on transitioning from global competitiveness to a post-competitiveness phase.
Thanks to its supportive legislative environment and national mechanisms, the UAE stands as a leading global model in protecting women's rights. The General Women's Union and the UAE Gender Balance Council have been instrumental in empowering women and building their capacities across different sectors.
Over time, these efforts have significantly contributed to enhancing women's roles within society. The continued focus on legislative support ensures that Emirati women remain pivotal in driving national development forward.
