UAE Joins Saudi Arabia In Celebrating 94th National Day And Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The UAE will join Saudi Arabia in celebrating the Kingdom's 94th National Day on 23rd September. This participation highlights the deep and unique ties between the two nations. Their relationship serves as a foundation for cooperation in the Gulf, Arab, and regional contexts, contributing to stability and prosperity.

Over the past decade, non-oil trade between the UAE and Saudi Arabia has grown significantly. According to the UAE Ministry of Economy, trade increased by about 69% from AED79.9 billion in 2013 to around AED135 billion in 2023. The compound annual growth rate during this period was 5.4%, with total non-oil trade reaching AED1.032 trillion from 2014 to 2023.

UAE Celebrates Saudi National Day Together

The economic partnership between these countries is exceptional, marked by strong trade relations. In the first half of 2024, trade volume reached $17.53 billion, a 22.50% increase from $14.31 billion in the same period of 2023, according to Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics. The UAE's exports to Saudi Arabia rose by 10.26% to $6.80 billion during this time.

Imports from Saudi Arabia into the UAE also saw a rise, amounting to $10.73 billion in the first half of 2024 compared to $8.15 billion in the same period of 2023. The distribution of non-oil trade over ten years included imports at AED252.46 billion, exports at AED255.5 billion, and re-exports at AED524 billion.

The cultural connections between the UAE and Saudi Arabia are deeply rooted in their shared history and geographical proximity. These ties have been strengthened through various educational exchanges; historically, Emirati students attended schools in Mecca, Al Ahsa, and Riyadh, while today many Saudi students study at Emirati universities.

Joint agreements and programmes further enhance cultural relations between both countries' institutions and intellectuals. These efforts underscore their shared heritage and social bonds that continue to grow stronger over time.

Tourism and Investment Opportunities

Tourism plays a vital role in supporting economic sectors within both nations, offering promising investment opportunities for joint projects that diversify their economic bases. This sector contributes significantly to enhancing commercial ties between them.

The establishment of the Saudi-Emirati Coordination Council in 2016 aimed at fostering a shared vision for bilateral relations enhancement while advancing an integrated economic system across both countries.

Leadership's Role in Strengthening Ties

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud laid down strong foundations for bilateral relations which expanded under Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud into comprehensive partnerships.

The current leadership under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan alongside King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud continues elevating these relations further ensuring sustainable development across various fields including trade investments coordination consultations among others positively impacting both nations' growth trajectories.

This year's celebration coincides with Saudi Arabia's ambitious "Vision 2030," marking its journey towards a prosperous future through one of the world's largest national transformation programmes.
