UAE Weather: Thunderstorms, Heavy Rainfall Expected This Weekend

As the UAE braces itself for more thunderstorms and heavy rainfall over the weekend, following this week's hailstorm and generally wet conditions, authorities have announced a special media briefing to address the anticipated adverse weather conditions. This briefing, set for today, March 7, at 5 pm, will be a joint effort by the National Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), the Ministry of Interior, and the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM).

Today's Weather Forecast

Residents across the UAE can expect partly cloudy conditions today, transitioning to cloudier skies tonight and into Friday morning. This shift will bring convective clouds over scattered areas, particularly in the western regions, leading to rainfall. The early hours of Thursday have already seen light rainfall in certain areas including Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. Alongside rising temperatures throughout the day, winds will vary from light to moderate, occasionally intensifying, which may lead to blowing dust and sand, affecting horizontal visibility. Seas in the Arabian Gulf are expected to be slight to moderate, and slight in the Oman Sea.

Upcoming Weather Event

The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology forecasts a significant weather event expected to impact the entire country from late Thursday night through Sunday, with its peak on Saturday. This weather phenomenon will cover most parts of the country, extending from the western regions to the north and east. Given these projections, the authorities' decision to hold a media briefing underscores the importance of preparedness and public safety.

Safety Measures and Penalties

In light of the impending weather conditions, the police have issued safety tips and highlighted rain-related penalties, including fines up to Dh 2,000. Motorists are advised against using phones and engaging in reckless stunts like drifting during bad weather. Authorities emphasise the need for caution and adherence to safety guidelines during adverse weather conditions.
