UAE To Experience Heavy Rains And Strong Winds This Weekend, NCM Warns

Residents across the UAE are bracing for a bout of inclement weather as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts rains and strong winds starting Sunday. The weather change, attributed to a deepening upper-air trough, is expected to bring heavy downpours accompanied by lightning and thunder, marking a noticeable drop in temperatures throughout the region.

The NCM has highlighted that while the rainy conditions are expected to subside by Tuesday evening, the period leading up to it will see scattered showers and strong wind gusts across the UAE. The agency has issued warnings about potential hazards both on land and at sea, urging residents to exercise caution.

According to the state-run Emirates News Agency, the strong winds, shifting from south-easterly to north-easterly and eventually northwesterly, are predicted to be moderate to fresh, with a chance of reaching strong gusts. These conditions could lead to blowing dust and sandstorms, significantly reducing visibility on roads and posing challenges for motorists.

The impact of the weather change is not limited to land. The Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea are expected to witness light to moderate waves, escalating to rough and very rough seas at times, particularly in areas affected by convective clouds. This has prompted the NCM to caution those venturing out to sea, highlighting the potential for hazardous conditions.

As the UAE gears up for this severe weather event, the NCM and the Emirates News Agency have stressed the importance of staying informed about the changing weather conditions. Motorists, in particular, are advised to remain vigilant and prioritize safety, especially during periods of reduced visibility caused by dust and sandstorms. With preparations underway to mitigate the effects of the weather change, residents are encouraged to follow updates and adhere to guidance issued by authorities.
