UAE Launches First Phase Of Blue Visa System For Environmental Innovators
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, along with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), has unveiled the initial phase of the Blue Visa system in the UAE. This announcement was made during the World Governments Summit 2025, which is taking place in Dubai from February 11 to 13. The Blue Visa is a 10-year residency permit aimed at individuals who have significantly contributed to environmental protection and sustainability.
In this first phase, 20 leaders and innovators in sustainability will be awarded the Blue Visa. These recipients include members of international organisations, global companies, associations, non-governmental organisations, award winners, and notable activists and researchers in environmental fields. Interested sustainability advocates can apply directly through ICP or be nominated by relevant UAE authorities.

The Blue Visa initiative is part of the UAE's ongoing commitment to sustainability efforts. It builds on previous residency programs like the Golden and Green Residencies. The electronic system provided by ICP facilitates obtaining approval through applications submitted by government agencies involved in sustainability sectors.
Dr Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted that this initiative aligns with the UAE's vision to position itself as a global leader in sustainability. She stated that it aims to attract thinkers and innovators with exceptional achievements in climate change both locally and globally. "This initiative aims to leverage their contributions to achieve ambitious national goals and build a sustainable future for the people of the UAE and the world."
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of ICP, noted that eligible individuals can access the Blue Visa service around the clock via its website and mobile app. This service is subject to specific terms and conditions approved by the authority.
The introduction of the Blue Visa reflects the UAE's dedication to fostering innovation in environmental action. By recognising those who contribute significantly to sustainability efforts, it seeks to enhance its role on the global stage while working towards a sustainable future for all.
