UAE And Bermuda Sign MoU To Collaborate On Government Development And Modernization
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bermuda have formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to exchange knowledge and experiences in modernising government models. This agreement, signed at the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, aims to enhance economic, environmental, and social development in both regions.
The MoU establishes a framework for the UAE Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and Bermuda’s Ministry of Economy and Labour to share information on improving government services and policies. This collaboration will focus on best practices in human capacity building, enabling public sector employees to develop critical skills in technology and leadership.

Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister for Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange, represented the UAE in signing the MoU. The Honourable Jason Hayward, Minister of Economy and Labour, signed on behalf of Bermuda. Lootah highlighted that the UAE's model for developing human capacity has led to better policies, smarter services, and tangible societal benefits.
Lootah stated: "The UAE government has developed a leading model for developing human capacity and stimulating innovation within the public sector, which has led to better policies, smarter services and tangible benefits for our society and economy. This model has given rise to the world's first government accelerators, the One Million Arab Coders initiative and numerous leadership programs. We are committed to sharing our experiences in these initiatives with other agile nations that prioritize future-readiness, such as Bermuda. In doing so, we are supporting other governments to become more resilient and accelerate progress around SDGs in line with our role as a key member of the international community."
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Minister Jason Hayward remarked: "Bermuda's participation in the Government Experience Exchange Programme highlights the robust and deepening friendship between Bermuda and the UAE." This partnership underscores the strong bilateral relations between the two regions.
The UN HLPF on Sustainable Development is organised by the UN Economic and Social Affairs Department at its headquarters in New York. It runs until 17 July. The UAE delegation is engaging in several bilateral meetings with countries, governments, UN programs, and international organisations to support progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aligned with the UN’s 2030 Agenda.
Strategic Partnerships
Additionally, the UAE is forming strategic partnerships focused on eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring access to energy, and promoting climate action. These efforts align with several priorities related to SDGs.
This collaboration between the UAE and Bermuda signifies a commitment to future-readiness through shared knowledge and innovation. By working together, both governments aim to foster resilience and accelerate progress towards achieving sustainable development goals globally.
