UAE Aviation Safety Conference 2025 Concludes In Dubai With Insights On AI And Future Safety
The UAE Aviation Safety Conference 2025, hosted by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), recently concluded in Dubai. The event focused on "AI and the Future of Aviation Safety: Intelligent Skies, Safer Flights." Over two days, more than 220 participants engaged with 18 notable speakers and experts from the UAE's civil aviation sector.
Throughout the conference, discussions centred on how artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly intersecting with aviation safety. Ten sessions explored both the opportunities and challenges AI presents when integrated into safety-critical systems. The emphasis was on ensuring technology complements human expertise rather than replacing it.

Aqeel Al Zarouni, Assistant Director-General for Aviation Safety Affairs at the GCAA, highlighted the UAE's commitment to aviation safety. He stated, "The United Arab Emirates is steadily building one of the most advanced and trusted aviation safety systems in the world. With an ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit score of 98.86 percent, among the highest globally, the UAE continues to demonstrate that safety is not just a regulatory requirement, it is the foundation of our aviation system and a source of national pride."
The conference underscored maintaining a balanced partnership between human decision-making and intelligent systems in safety operations. Al Zarouni noted that AI reshapes aviation by introducing new challenges and tools. He said AI forces a reevaluation of risk assessment and decision-making while enhancing hazard anticipation to keep skies safer.
In addition to discussions, the conference celebrated achievements within the aviation sector through initiatives like the "Safety Marathon." This initiative encourages innovative safety practices by fostering healthy competition among organisations. Winners included Etihad Airways for Innovation, Roder for Customer Experience, and Dubai Airports for Operational Efficiency.
A recognition ceremony also took place during the conference to honour partners and sponsors involved in supporting UAE’s participation in global aviation events like the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly. Recognised entities included Emirates Airlines, flydubai, Abu Dhabi Airports, Abu Dhabi Mobility Center, Abu Dhabi Aviation, Etihad Aviation Training, Archer, and Choppershoot.
The event successfully highlighted how AI can transform aviation safety while reinforcing human roles in decision-making processes. By fostering innovation and recognising contributions within the sector, it aimed to strengthen UAE’s presence in global aviation.
