UAE Aviation Environment Working Group Finalises Its Agenda For 2024 Amid Environmental Challenges

The UAE National Aviation Environment Protection Working Group recently wrapped up its annual meetings for 2024. Maryam Al Balooshi, who is the Senior Manager of Environmental Affairs at the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), chaired these discussions. The meetings included representatives from national airlines, ADNOC, and UAE airports, focusing on key international developments.

During the meetings, participants discussed preparations for upcoming sessions of the Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) under the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). They examined how future decisions might impact the aviation sector, including airlines and airports. Leaders from various CAEP working groups in the UAE shared insights on progress and highlighted areas needing attention before the February meeting.

UAE Aviation Group Concludes 2024 Agenda

Maryam Al Balooshi stated, "This meeting comes at a pivotal time as the civil aviation sector faces growing environmental challenges that demand swift and effective responses. We are committed to developing sustainable solutions that protect the environment while ensuring a safe and sustainable future for the aviation industry. Through ongoing collaboration with relevant stakeholders, we aim to coordinate efforts and achieve our shared environmental protection goals."

The group also discussed key conferences and events leading up to 2025. This includes energy companies' participation in the Global Sustainable Aviation Marketplace (GSAM). The UAE will launch this event alongside the 4th ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in 2025. It is anticipated to draw over 2,000 international participants.

The Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre in Abu Dhabi hosted this meeting. It marks a new phase of collaboration with air navigation experts. This cooperation aligns with global trends and emerging issues like climate change, highlighting air navigation's crucial role in shaping sustainable aviation's future.

As they prepare for 2025, these discussions underscore the importance of addressing environmental challenges in aviation. By coordinating efforts with stakeholders, they aim to develop solutions that ensure both environmental protection and industry sustainability.
