UAE And Austria See Remarkable Growth In Mutual Investments And Trade In 2023

The latest economic figures have illuminated the burgeoning relationship between the UAE and Austria, showcasing a significant uptick in bilateral trade and investment. In 2023, Emirati exports to Austria saw a notable increase of 20.6 percent, reaching a value of €235.9 million. This growth encompassed a variety of sectors including crude oil, aluminium products, machinery, and electrical appliances. Concurrently, Austrian exports to the UAE also experienced a robust growth of 23.5 percent, amounting to €657.7 million, with key exports including machinery, mechanical appliances, boilers, and measuring devices.

Direct investments have similarly flourished between the two nations. Austrian investments in the UAE have hit approximately €13 billion, while Emirati direct investments in Austria are around €9 billion, as per the latest figures for 2022 from Austrian officials. This financial interconnection underscores the deepening economic ties fostered under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in 2021.

UAE-Austria Investment Growth 2023

This agreement has been pivotal in propelling UAE-Austrian relations to new heights by exploring joint economic opportunities and broadening bilateral cooperation. Strategic projects have emerged as a result, focusing on green hydrogen production technologies for energy security, renewable energy generation, and expanding investments in the petrochemical industry.

Austria's keen interest in collaborating with the UAE on artificial intelligence (AI) is evident through agreements aimed at fostering partnerships between research institutions and universities. This collaboration is intended to develop AI systems and share experiences to establish close cooperation across all AI domains.

The growing cooperation extends beyond technology into science, innovation, scientific research, academic cooperation, knowledge transfer, arts, culture, heritage, and educational projects. Austrian companies' active participation in trade fairs and international events in Dubai and Abu Dhabi highlights the commercial and investment opportunities available in the UAE.

The presence of the Austrian Foreign Trade Agency at international exhibitions and conferences further emphasizes the Emirati market's appeal to Austrian businesses. With 200 Austrian companies having branches in the UAE and around 400 active through agents, it's clear that the UAE market holds significant allure for Austrian enterprises.

As Austria’s largest trading and economic partner in the Gulf region, the UAE's relationship with Austria is at an all-time high. Both nations are committed to enhancing their economic and trade relations under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement of 2021.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer praised the longstanding relations between the two countries, which began 50 years ago. He highlighted the continuous development leading to their comprehensive strategic partnership. Nehammer emphasized the UAE's role as a crucial strategic and economic partner across various sectors.

The Austrian Ministry of Economy and Labour has recognized the UAE as a vital trade hub connecting Europe, Africa, and Asia. The ministry praised the favourable business climate and innovation-friendly environment in the UAE, encouraging Austrian companies to engage more actively in trade fairs and conferences organized within the Emirates.
