UAE's Anti-Mosquito Campaign Enters Intensive Third Phase To Protect Public Health
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has stepped up its efforts in the ongoing Anti-Mosquito Campaign, working in close collaboration with the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) and local authorities across the United Arab Emirates. This initiative, which kicked off its first phase in February 2022, is now entering its third phase, continuing until May 2025. The campaign is focused on eradicating mosquito breeding sites and curbing their proliferation in various regions, particularly in light of the increased rainfall the country has experienced, which fosters the growth of mosquito populations in stagnant water and moist areas.
Alia Abdul Rahim Al Harmoudi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sustainable Communities Sector at MOCCAE, highlighted the ministry's dedication to mosquito control as a primary objective during this period. She assured that the ministry is committed to providing essential information, guidance, and support to the community through all available communication channels. The ministry leverages its resources and qualified teams to address any developments that may lead to a rise in mosquito populations, ensuring regular monitoring and collaboration with relevant entities to tackle operational challenges effectively.

Dr. Saif Juma Al Dhaheri, Director of the National Operations Center at NCEMA, underscored the significance of national unity in addressing biological challenges and the importance of cooperation between various national and local entities. This collaboration is crucial for enhancing the country's capacity to manage health risks and safeguard the community. He noted that the campaign encompasses several key areas, including prevention and control measures, health awareness and education, and the elimination of mosquito breeding grounds.
Othaibah Saeed AlQaydi, Director of Municipal Affairs Management at MOCCAE, expressed the ministry's commitment to employing state-of-the-art technical solutions for mosquito management and spreading awareness about preventive measures with safety precautions to limit their spread. She reassured that all methods used in this campaign are safe for humans and animals alike, focusing solely on mosquito eradication.
The concerted efforts of MOCCAE, NCEMA, and local authorities across the UAE underscore a comprehensive approach towards minimizing mosquito infestation and protecting public health. Through strategic planning, community engagement, and the use of advanced technologies, the UAE aims to significantly reduce mosquito populations and mitigate associated health risks.
