Monday To Be First Day Of Ramadan In UAE, KSA; Most Asia-Pacific Nations To Follow On March 12
The UAE and Saudi Arabia have announced that the Holy Month of Ramadan will commence on Monday, March 11, 2024. This announcement came from the UAE's Moon-sighting Committee, which also confirmed that Sunday marks the last day of Sha'ban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. Ramadan, observed as the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is a period of fasting from dawn until sunset for Muslims all around the globe.
In anticipation of Ramadan, the UAE has already made adjustments to the working hours for both public and private sector employees. This move aims to accommodate the fasting period and the spiritual activities associated with Ramadan.
UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan greeted everyone on the occasion of the start of the Holy month of Ramadan.
Sheikh Mohamed said, “With the start of Ramadan, I extend my best wishes to all those observing the holy month. May this period of reflection and prayer bring us closer together and strengthen our bonds of unity and compassion. I wish you a blessed Ramadan filled with peace, harmony, and spiritual growth.”
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court also confirmed Monday is the first day of Ramadan. However, in Oman and few other nations Oman announced Tuesday, March 12 as the first day of Ramadan.
The countries who observe first day of Ramadan on Tuesday, March 12, include Australia, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines.
Meanwhile, in the Arab world, moon-sighting committees are set to convene today after the Maghreb prayers to observe the crescent moon, which heralds the beginning of Ramadan.
Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is a time when Muslims across the world fast from sunrise to sunset.
