UAE Extends Stay For 5 Visa Categories: Find Out Who Is Eligible
The UAE's Federal Authority for Identity, Nationalisation, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has recently announced a significant update to the UAE's visa system, granting extended stay benefits to various visa holder categories post the expiry or cancellation of their visas. This move is set to impact a wide range of residents, including those with golden and green visas, students, skilled professionals, and more, allowing them a more extended period to remain in the country under certain conditions.
Extended Stay For Five Visa Categories
Under the new visa system, five specific categories of visa holders can now enjoy the privilege of staying in the UAE for up to six months after their visa has either expired or been cancelled. These categories include holders of Golden Visas along with their family members, Green Visa holders and their family members, widows or divorcees of foreigners residing in the country, students sponsored by a university or college in the UAE upon the end of their studies, and residents possessing skilled professions classified under the first and second levels by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
Three-Month Extension For Other Categories
In addition to the six-month extension, two other categories have been granted a three-month stay. This includes skilled professionals of the third level and property owners who possess sponsorship on one of their properties. Furthermore, the ICP has adjusted the stay duration for visa holders with a guarantor or host from the previous 30 days to now 60 days. This specific adjustment benefits residents, domestic workers, family members, and other visa holders having a guarantor or host within the UAE.
Shorter Extensions For Specific Groups
Visa holders from countries experiencing disasters and wars, foreign retirees, virtual employers, as well as investors or partners, are provided with a 30-day grace period following their visa's expiration or cancellation. This extension aims to offer a cushion for those who might need to arrange for their departure or transition within a short window.
Encouraging Utilisation Of New Benefits
The ICP has made a call to action for individuals to familiarise themselves with these new benefits. By accessing the ICP's website or its smart application, visa holders can explore these updates in detail and apply for the extensions if eligible. Additionally, the ICP has made provisions for in-person inquiries at customer happiness centres located across the UAE, ensuring that residents can avail of these benefits seamlessly.
This comprehensive update to the visa system reflects the UAE's commitment to providing a supportive environment for its diverse population of residents. By allowing extended stays for various categories, the country is ensuring that individuals have ample time to make arrangements post-visa expiry or cancellation, further enhancing the UAE's appeal as a residence and work destination.
