UAE And OECD Seek Stronger Governance And Sustainable Development At Davos Meeting

H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, on the sidelines of the 56th Annual Meetings of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to discuss deeper cooperation.

The discussion focused on how UAE priorities align with OECD work areas, especially in sustainable development, policy improvement, economic competitiveness, and capacity building. Both sides examined ways to link global expertise with national development plans and to broaden cooperation across several strategic policy fields.

H.H. Latifa bint Mohammed highlighted the OECD’s key role in shaping effective public policies and supporting comprehensive and sustainable development worldwide. The meeting underlined how OECD guidance helps countries refine economic and institutional frameworks, strengthen governance systems, and respond more effectively to shifting global economic and social conditions.

The meeting was also attended by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, and Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, alongside several senior officials from both the UAE and the OECD.

Participants reviewed shared priorities with the OECD, including policy development, wise governance, innovation support and building resilient economies that can adapt to international changes. They stressed the value of reliable data and rigorous analysis for informed decision-making, and the exchange of international best practices in strategic planning and sustainable development efforts.

H.H. Latifa bint Mohammed noted that the UAE places strong emphasis on advancing government work models and improving public policy efficiency. The UAE seeks to benefit from leading international experiences to support sustainable development goals, enhance quality of life, and maintain long-term economic and social stability.

The meeting in Davos highlighted the growing partnership between the UAE and the OECD, particularly in areas related to sound governance, policy design and sustainable growth. Officials from both sides used the World Economic Forum platform to explore future opportunities for collaboration that support national and global development agendas.
