UAE President And Albania Prime Minister Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Edi Rama of Albania met in Tirana to discuss enhancing bilateral relations. The focus was on cooperation in sectors like economy, trade, renewable energy, food security, and technology. Both leaders expressed a commitment to strengthening ties and exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration.

The UAE President highlighted the significant progress in relations between the UAE and Albania over recent years. He noted that non-oil trade between the two countries increased by 129.4% in 2024 compared to 2023. This growth reflects their joint development efforts and mutual interests.

Both nations are actively collaborating in renewable and clean energy, aligning with their shared sustainability goals. The UAE is eager to enhance this partnership further, recognising its importance for future development. This cooperation aims to promote sustainable development and accelerate the transition to clean energy in the Mediterranean region.

A framework for action was exchanged between Masdar, TAQA Transmission, Korporata Elektroenergjitike Shqiptare (KESH), and Operatori i Sistemit të Transmetimit (OST). This framework focuses on assessing and implementing initiatives related to renewable energy and infrastructure as part of a tripartite strategic partnership involving the UAE, Albania, and Italy.

The UAE President and Albanian Prime Minister also witnessed an exchange of a letter of engagement between Presight AI and the Albanian Ministry of Interior. This agreement is part of the Albania Smart City Project aimed at improving infrastructure and public facilities. The exchange involved Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber from the UAE side, with Belinda Balluku and Ervin Hoxha representing Albania.

During their meeting, both leaders reviewed regional and international issues of mutual interest. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed underscored the UAE's support for global peace efforts, particularly in the Balkan region. He emphasised resolving conflicts through diplomacy to foster regional development, prosperity, peace, and security worldwide.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The discussions reaffirmed both countries' determination to advance relations for mutual benefit. His Excellency Edi Rama welcomed His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed warmly, reiterating Albania's commitment to strengthening ties with the UAE while leveraging opportunities for deeper cooperation.

The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials from both sides. From the UAE were H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, and Dr Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri.

Earlier in the day, His Highness arrived at Tirana's Palace of Brigades where national anthems were played. An honour guard saluted him upon arrival. A banquet was later held by His Excellency Edi Rama in honour of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and his delegation.
