UAE's Al Hammadi Sisters Set To Defend MMA Titles At 2024 World Junior Championship

UAE's rising Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) stars, sisters Zamzam Al Hammadi (17) and Ghala Al Hammadi (15), are gearing up to defend their World Junior Mixed Martial Arts Championship titles. The 2024 competitions will be held from August 6-10 at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City. This event will feature over 800 athletes from more than 45 countries, underscoring Abu Dhabi’s growing prominence in the global MMA community.

Zamzam made history last year by becoming the first female champion in UAE’s history, winning the 52kg gold in the MMA Youth World Championships. Following her sister's lead, Ghala clinched the 40kg gold with a record-breaking armbar in the group stages, marking the fastest submission in the tournament's history.

Al Hammadi Sisters Eye MMA Title Defense

Zamzam expressed her excitement about the upcoming challenge, acknowledging that competition will be fierce among athletes from 45 countries. She is determined to raise her country's flag on the podium again, just as she did last year. "I am participating in this edition in the 52 kg category, and in the past period there were several stages of preparations, and I feel that things are very good and I am eagerly awaiting the start of the competitions," she said.

Ghala is also looking forward to delivering a strong performance in this new edition of the championship. She aims to excel and retain her title despite facing tough confrontations. She mentioned that she has been preparing rigorously with morning and evening exercises to achieve peak readiness for the anticipated fights. "I continued preparing for the championship in the previous period with morning and evening exercises to achieve the best levels of readiness for the anticipated fights in the new edition," she added.

The event will not only showcase individual talents but also highlight Abu Dhabi’s significant role in promoting MMA on a global scale. With over 800 athletes participating, it promises to be a competitive and thrilling championship.
