UAE's AbdulRahman Bin Mohamed Al Owais Addresses Arab Health Ministers Council At World Health Assembly
AbdulRahman Bin Mohamed Al Owais, the UAE's Minister of Health and Prevention, delivered a unified statement at the 78th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva. Leading the UAE delegation, he was joined by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, and other member state representatives. This participation underscores the UAE's commitment to enhancing its role in global health initiatives.
The UAE's involvement aligns with its leadership's vision to bolster its influence in regional and international health sectors. The country aims to support global healthcare improvements and actively engage in international forums. This engagement helps the UAE stay updated on global health developments, share successful practices, and contribute to advancing healthcare systems locally and globally.

In his address, Al Owais expressed gratitude towards WHO for its efforts in public health improvement and sustainable development goals. He highlighted the Arab Health Ministers Council's support for global health cooperation. "The role of WHO regional offices is crucial in assisting Arab countries towards a better health future," he stated.
The minister also addressed pressing health issues in regions like Gaza, Sudan, Yemen, and the occupied Syrian Golan. He emphasised the need for intensified international efforts and solidarity to tackle these challenges effectively.
Al Owais noted that the UAE has emerged as a leader in readiness, adaptability, rapid decision-making, and foresight. He showcased how the country has built a comprehensive health system using digital technologies and forward-looking strategies aligned with the UAE Centennial 2071 vision.
The minister explained that special attention has been given to developing a future roadmap for a leading health system based on innovative solutions. This approach enhances sectoral capabilities and preparedness for future challenges.
Collaborative Efforts for Better Healthcare
On the sidelines of the Assembly, Arab health ministers convened to discuss shared concerns. The meeting stressed continued coordination among Arab nations to improve healthcare systems' performance across countries. It also focused on enhancing access to better services and employing emerging technologies for community health improvements.
The Council commended initiatives like the Jeddah Declaration from the 4th Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and recommendations from Bahrain's Arab Forum for Pharmaceutical Development held in May 2025.
Strategic Partnerships
Al Owais confirmed that an agreement between the UAE and WHO will establish a global logistics centre for emergency services. This initiative responds to growing demands for emergency responses worldwide, reflecting the UAE’s belief that health is a fundamental human right.
The minister reiterated that through strategic partnerships and innovative approaches, the UAE has successfully established an integrated healthcare system meeting top global standards.
This participation at the World Health Assembly highlights the UAE’s dedication to contributing positively to global healthcare advancements while reinforcing its position as a leader in this vital sector.
