UAE Celebrates 54th Eid Al Etihad With Achievements In Sustainability And Artificial Intelligence

The United Arab Emirates is marking its 54th Eid Al Etihad, celebrating a year filled with significant achievements both domestically and internationally. The nation has solidified its role as a key economic player on the global stage while continuing to make notable contributions in humanitarian efforts. Domestically, the UAE has seen several high-quality accomplishments that have propelled its sustainable development journey forward.

In environmental sustainability, the UAE has made strides with initiatives like a unique marine exploration voyage to study seabed geology and the creation of a geospatial data platform for agriculture and water resources. The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah also announced the inclusion of Khor Kalba Mangrove Centre in the Wetlands Link International network, enhancing wetland conservation efforts.

The UAE launched "SANA," Sharjah's first solar power plant, covering 850,000 square meters and generating 60 megawatts of energy. Additionally, Abu Dhabi increased its nature reserves to cover 20% of its total area. A groundbreaking project combining a 5.2 GW solar PV plant with a 19 GWh battery storage system was initiated in Abu Dhabi, marking it as the world's largest solar and battery storage project.

Internationally, Masdar and other UAE companies expanded renewable energy projects across continents, developing solar, wind, and hydrogen plants in countries like Saudi Arabia, Spain, Indonesia, Africa, Yemen, and Egypt. These efforts aim to provide clean electricity to millions globally.

The UAE is advancing rapidly in artificial intelligence (AI), with AI tool usage reaching 97%, the highest globally. The country now boasts over 450,000 programmers. Abu Dhabi launched a comprehensive UAE–US AI campus with a capacity of 5 gigawatts—the largest outside the US—while collaborating with France on AI infrastructure development.

MGX partnered with BlackRock and Microsoft to include Nvidia and xAI in an "AI Infrastructure Partnership," potentially investing USD 100 billion in next-generation data centres. The UAE Cabinet supported Google Cloud's launch of its first Global Cyber Security Centre of Excellence in Abu Dhabi to enhance digital transformation and cybersecurity.

Legislative Developments and National Strategies

The UAE introduced four new visit visa categories: AI specialists, entertainment, events, and cruise tourism. It also launched the first smart legislative system based on AI. Starting January 2026, the National Artificial Intelligence System will serve as an advisory member of the UAE Cabinet.

The year saw proactive national policies like the National Strategy to Attract Talent 2031 and the National Cybersecurity Strategy. Other initiatives included the Zero Bureaucracy Programme's second phase and strategies for economic clusters and family growth by 2031.

At the G20 Summit, the UAE unveiled a US$1 billion AI for Development initiative to support AI projects in Africa. This move underscores its commitment to fostering technological advancements worldwide.

The Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative launched the "Al Miyah Challenge" to promote innovative water solutions. The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) initiated the "Abu Dhabi Coral Garden" project to protect marine biodiversity.

The UAE's legislative framework saw updates through new decrees and laws aimed at supporting various sectors' growth. These measures reflect a strong momentum towards future-oriented policies that anticipate challenges across vital areas.
