Trust In Online Content Falls As AI-Generated Material Proliferates

Nine out of ten internet users do not trust what they see online, according to Jérémy Boissinot, founding partner and CEO of AI marketing platform Favikon. Speaking at the 1 Billion Followers Summit 2026, Boissinot said distrust is rising as AI tools generate convincing fake personalities.

Boissinot pointed to a social media account with two million followers that investigators recently found was fully AI generated. What once sounded like conspiracy theories about social platforms now appears more concrete, as fabricated accounts and content become harder for audiences to spot.

Trust in Online Content Falls Over AI

The Favikon randomised survey showed that only 38% of respondents correctly identified which posts were genuine. Jérémy Boissinot said many fake news items now resemble professional reports, leaving most users unsure about what information is real or altered by AI systems.

Addressing the session titled ‘How to Find Creators In an AI Slop World’, Jeremy Boissinot contrasted how long authentic work takes with AI output. An AI video can be produced in about five minutes, while creating verified content demands more time, planning and human oversight.

Jérémy Boissinot said "He emphasised that, as a consequence, many users have become conditioned to accept slop content." Boissinot explained that almost anything can be faked on social platforms, apart from genuine human behaviour and community responses that build over time.

Boissinot stated: "What we cannot fake is the human element and community interactions. A person's character is rooted in a direction that does not lie. Therefore, to truly assess a content creator, users must examine their direction, track record and credibility."

Favikon is developing technology aimed at this trust problem. Jérémy Boissinot said the platform now offers specialised applications that analyse posts to detect fake material and help verify creators. These tools are designed to support audiences and brands seeking reliable voices in AI-driven feeds.
