Tripartite Agreement Strengthens Freight Brokers And Establishes Regional Centres At Saudi Ports

The Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, the General Authority of Ports (Mawani), and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) have entered into a cooperation agreement. This initiative is designed to empower freight brokers in managing joint containers and establishing regional centres at Saudi ports. The signing took place during the Global Logistics Forum in Riyadh, from October 12 to 14, under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

Senior officials from maritime, logistics, and customs sectors attended the signing ceremony. The agreement aligns with Saudi Arabia's National Strategy for Transport and Logistics. It aims to enhance the country's standing in the Global Logistics Performance Index. This move is part of Vision 2030's goal to transform Saudi Arabia into a global logistics hub.

New Agreement Boosts Freight Brokers in Saudi Arabia

The agreement will focus on identifying challenges and developing strategies to improve freight brokers' operations. By refining operational systems and procedures, it ensures that brokers have the necessary tools and mechanisms for success. Implementing global best practices is a key aspect of this initiative.

Close coordination with the private sector is also emphasized. The three entities involved are committed to assessing needs and devising innovative solutions for enhancing logistics operations. This collaboration aims to create a sustainable transport and logistics sector that supports Saudi Arabia's economic goals.

The agreement includes plans for launching a pilot phase to evaluate field experiments. The system will be progressively activated at designated ports. Specialized operators will be empowered to provide logistics services in port operating yards, ensuring seamless processes.

This step represents significant progress toward an integrated transport and logistics sector in Saudi Arabia. It contributes to both economic growth and strategic objectives within the Kingdom. The focus remains on optimizing operations through effective strategies and coordination.
