Transport Vice Minister Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih Explores International Maritime Cooperation In London Meetings

Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, Vice Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Acting President of the Transport General Authority, engaged with maritime leaders at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) headquarters in London. His visit aligned with a ceremony honouring Saudi Ambassador to the UK, Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, who received an honorary doctorate for his contributions to international maritime cooperation.

During the event, Dr. Al-Rumaih met Prince Khalid to discuss Saudi Arabia's maritime initiatives. They explored ways to enhance cooperation within the global maritime sector. The discussions also focused on strengthening ties with international officials to advance maritime development efforts.

Maritime Cooperation Discussed by Transport Vice Minister

Dr. Al-Rumaih held talks with Hilton Kendall, Minister of Transportation, Communication and Information Technology of the Marshall Islands. Their discussions centred on joint maritime initiatives supported by Saudi Arabia. This collaboration aims to foster mutual benefits in the maritime domain.

In a meeting with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, Dr. Al-Rumaih discussed enhancing cooperation to protect marine environments. They also talked about improving safety measures and facilitating global maritime navigation. These efforts aim to ensure safer and more sustainable seas worldwide.

Dr. Al-Rumaih met Manasseh Maelanga, Minister of Infrastructure Development of the Solomon Islands, to explore cooperation opportunities on a global vessel tracking system initiative supported by Saudi Arabia. This system is designed to enhance vessel tracking capabilities globally.

Promoting Marine Sustainability

In discussions with Rannia Leontaridi from the UK Department for Transport, they explored ways to bolster international cooperation. The focus was particularly on supporting developing and island nations in their maritime endeavours.

Dr. Al-Rumaih also engaged with European Parliament members, highlighting the importance of global partnerships in promoting marine environmental sustainability. He emphasised improving seafarer training and education in developing countries as a key priority.

Advancing Ship Tracking Systems

In his final meeting with Laurent Parenté, Director-General of the International Mobile Satellite Organization, Dr. Al-Rumaih reviewed the Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) system. This system aims to improve global ship identification and tracking while enhancing maritime safety and protecting marine environments.

The series of meetings underscored Saudi Arabia's commitment to advancing international maritime cooperation and environmental protection efforts through strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives.
