Urban Planning's Crucial Role In Transforming Cities Unveiled At UITP MENA Congress

The UITP MENA Congress and Exhibition recently wrapped up with a pivotal plenary session titled "Shaping Our Cities with Urban Planning." This session delved into the transformative power of urban planning on enhancing public transport's accessibility and efficiency within urban environments. The discussion revolved around innovative strategies to morph urban areas into vibrant, sustainable, and well-connected communities. Mohamed Mezghani, Secretary General of UITP, moderated the session, which saw contributions from experts like Riyad Mohammad Al Kharabsheh, Director at Amman's Public Transport and Infrastructure Projects, Adam Giambrone, Project Manager at HDR Inc for King Abdullah Economic City, Muna Al Osaimi, Director at the Strategic Planning Department of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Hanan Sami Alhashmi, Head of the Urban Policies and Strategies section at Dubai Municipality.

Muna Al Osaimi highlighted Dubai's strategic approach to urban planning, emphasizing the integration of transportation to enhance public transport services amidst urbanization and population growth. Hanan Al Hashmi reiterated the significance of public transport in crafting the architectural essence of urban landscapes. It's not just about shaping infrastructure but also about defining the essence of urban life and well-being. Riyad Mohammad Al Kharabsheh discussed Amman's efforts towards becoming a vibrant, connected city where everyone is within a '20-minute' radius of essential amenities.
