Fashion Commission Launches Competition To Revive Traditional Handcrafts In Saudi Fashion
The Fashion Commission has introduced the "Traditional Handcrafts Revival in Saudi Fashion" competition. This initiative aims to highlight traditional Saudi attire and cultural heritage. It aligns with the Ministry of Culture’s Year of Handicrafts 2025, focusing on preserving Saudi cultural identity and nurturing local talent in creative design.
Participants will engage in a five-day workshop led by industry experts. These sessions will cover four main topics: traditional fashion design, Saudi heritage and architecture, fashion handcrafts, and creative fashion skills. The goal is to equip participants with advanced knowledge and skills in these areas.

The competition encourages participants to create unique fashion pieces that reflect local traditions and design artistry inherent in Saudi culture. By doing so, it seeks to raise awareness about traditional handcrafts within the kingdom while fostering a deeper understanding of Saudi heritage.
Entrants will submit their creations for evaluation by a panel of experts chosen by the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Wrth). This panel will assess the designs based on their incorporation of traditional elements and creativity.
The winning design will be announced on February 16. This design will be featured at the Fashion Commission’s exhibition during the Saudi Cup 2025, coinciding with the celebration of Saudi Founding Day. This event provides an excellent platform for showcasing the rich cultural identity of Saudi Arabia.
The competition not only aims to preserve cultural identity but also to develop local talent through training and guidance opportunities. Participants will gain technical and creative skills while deepening their understanding of traditional fashion design and handcrafts.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance awareness and appreciation for traditional crafts in Saudi Arabia. By providing such platforms, the Fashion Commission hopes to inspire future generations to continue exploring and innovating within this rich cultural domain.
