Toshiba Enhances Makkah's Power Supply With Gas-Insulated Transformers

Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions Corporation ("Toshiba") has successfully installed and activated seven gas-insulated transformers (GIT) at the Haram 2 and Haram 3 substations in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This project, commissioned by Saudi Electricity Company, aims to enhance the safety and reliability of the power supply for millions of residents and visitors.

Makkah, a city that annually hosts millions of pilgrims, requires dependable infrastructure to ensure an uninterrupted power supply. To meet this need, Saudi Electricity Company opted for GITs due to their high safety standards. These transformers are non-flammable and explosion-proof, addressing major concerns for urban substations.

Power Safety Boost in Makkah

Focus on Safety and Reliability

In 2020, Toshiba's GITs were chosen for this project because of the company's proven technical expertise and reliable products. The replacement involved upgrading 110 kV-class substations from oil-insulated transformers to the safer GITs. This move significantly boosts substation safety and performance in Makkah.

Toshiba has a strong history of GIT sales globally, including regions like Japan, East Asia, North America, and Europe. However, this marks their first order in the Gulf States. The company's emphasis on product safety and reliability will positively impact Makkah's infrastructure for years to come.

Global Expansion Plans

Toshiba is dedicated to expanding its presence in the global GIT market. Their focus includes regions such as East Asia, North America, Europe, and now the Middle East. This commitment underscores their aim to provide safe and reliable power solutions worldwide.

The installation of these GITs is a significant upgrade for Makkah's urban infrastructure. It ensures a more stable power supply for both residents and the millions of pilgrims who visit the city each year. This project highlights Toshiba's role in enhancing public well-being through advanced technology.

"We are proud to contribute to the safety and reliability of Makkah's power supply," said a Toshiba spokesperson. "Our gas-insulated transformers offer superior safety features that are crucial for densely populated urban areas."

This initiative by Saudi Electricity Company reflects a proactive approach to modernising essential services in Makkah. By choosing Toshiba's GITs, they have prioritised both safety and efficiency in their power distribution network.

The successful implementation of this project sets a precedent for future upgrades in other regions facing similar challenges. It demonstrates how advanced technology can address critical infrastructure needs effectively.

Overall, Toshiba's involvement in this project showcases their capability to deliver high-quality solutions that meet stringent safety standards. Their ongoing efforts to expand globally will likely bring similar benefits to other parts of the world.
