Elite WTA Talent Set for Showdown at 2024 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is gearing up for an exciting week of tennis, featuring a star-studded lineup of players. The official draw for the WTA 1000 event, which includes 56 players, has been announced. The tournament will kick off tomorrow at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium and will continue until the 24th of February. This year's event boasts an impressive roster, including 15 of the world's top 20 players and 10 Grand Slam winners who collectively hold 17 Grand Slam titles.
Among the top contenders is World No.1 Iga Swiatek, a four-time Grand Slam winner and last year's finalist in Dubai. Swiatek has received a bye for the first round and is set for a potential second-round clash with 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens. A third-round match could see her face two-time Dubai winner Elina Svitolina. Other notable players in Swiatek's half of the draw include 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff, World No.6 Ons Jabeur, 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, and recent Australian Open finalist Qinwen Zheng.

Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free, highlighted the tournament's growth and its newly awarded permanent WTA 1000 status. "It’s fantastic to see so many of the world’s top players here again – 15 of the world’s top 20 is a testament to the esteem our event continues to enjoy on the WTA Tour," McLoughlin stated.
On the opposite side of the draw, Aryna Sabalenka, back-to-back Australian Open champion and No.2 seed, is poised to meet World No.8 and reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the quarter-finals. Elena Rybakina, Maria Sakkari, and Sofia Kenin are also key contenders in this half of the draw.
The Official Draw event saw appearances from Arab superstar Ons Jabeur, Elina Svitolina, and World No.27 Donna Vekic. Jabeur expressed her excitement about making her ninth appearance in Dubai after missing last year's event due to injury.
The women's competition precedes the men's event at the same venue, with the ATP Tour 500 tournament scheduled from February 26th to March 2nd. This year marks the 24th edition of the annual WTA event and promises a week filled with top-tier tennis action.
