This achievement not only highlights Oman's dedication to education but also its ambition to strengthen its position on the international educational stage.
The collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Education, alongside the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science and the Ministry of Interior, have been crucial in reaching this significant milestone.

Global Recognition
The announcement came through a virtual ceremony hosted by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the newly listed cities. Being part of this prestigious network highlights their steadfast commitment to promoting lifelong learning, aligning with the Ministry of Education's objectives to nurture a culture of continuous education and growth.
A Network of Learning and Growth
Since its inception in 2012, the Global Network of Learning Cities has played a pivotal role in advocating for lifelong learning globally. The network facilitates dialogue on educational policies, forges global partnerships among cities, and strengthens connections between municipal governments and educational entities.
A Learning City leverages its resources across various sectors to offer inclusive educational opportunities for individuals of all ages. It aims to cultivate a learning culture within families and communities, enhance employability through skill development, and harness modern educational technologies. The ultimate goals are to boost personal development, foster social cohesion, and drive economic and cultural prosperity. In doing so, Learning Cities significantly contribute to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Oman's achievement is a clear indication of its dedication to creating a brighter, more sustainable future through education. This accomplishment is a step towards realising the Sultanate's potential on the global educational landscape, inspiring other nations to follow suit in their pursuit of lifelong learning and sustainable development.
