Over 2,000 Unlicensed Transport Cases Detected By TGA At Airports In Ramadan

In a significant move to enhance passenger safety and regulate the transport sector, the Transport General Authority (TGA) has ramped up its efforts during Ramadan by conducting rigorous inspection tours at the Kingdom's airports. These inspections are part of a broader initiative to tackle the issue of unlicensed transport services, which pose a risk to passenger safety and undermine the regulated transport sector.

The recent campaign has yielded notable results, with TGA officials detecting a total of 2,194 violations and seizing 1,217 vehicles for operating without proper licensing. Furthermore, the campaign identified 126 instances of repeat offenses, underscoring the persistent challenge of unlicensed transport operations within the Kingdom.

The scope of these inspections was comprehensive, covering all major airports across Saudi Arabia. The distribution of violations among the airports was as follows: King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah reported the highest percentage of violators at 38%, followed by King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh at 30%, Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah at 15%, King Fahd International Airport in Dammam at 12%, and Taif International Airport at 5%.

The TGA's inspection campaigns are driven by a commitment to ensuring a safe and reliable travel experience for passengers. By clamping down on unlicensed transport services, the authority aims to organize the passenger transport sector more effectively and promote the use of licensed transportation options that meet the regulatory standards set by TGA.

Violators caught during these inspections face stringent penalties, including financial fines of up to SAR5,000 and vehicle impoundment, with the violator bearing the cost of impoundment.
