TGA Celebrates Saudi Arabia's Maritime Achievements And Environmental Initiatives On World Maritime Day
The Transport General Authority (TGA) recently celebrated Saudi Arabia's accomplishments in the maritime sector during World Maritime Day. This event underscored the Kingdom's significant regional and global influence in maritime transport. Saudi Arabia has achieved a 17th place ranking globally in the World Bank's Maritime Logistics Performance Index, showcasing its progress.
Saudi Arabia is committed to environmental sustainability, demonstrated by its efforts to reduce emissions and plant 100 million mangrove trees. These trees are crucial for protecting coastlines from erosion and storms, acting as natural barriers that lessen shoreline degradation and wave impact. Furthermore, mangroves are highly effective at absorbing carbon dioxide, aiding climate change mitigation.

The Kingdom has launched new logistics zones and an integrated container terminal in NEOM powered by renewable energy. This initiative reflects a push towards a more sustainable maritime sector. Additionally, Saudi Arabia has restored 200 hectares of coral reefs and established specialized research centers along the Red Sea coasts for marine protection.
In human capacity development, over 3,200 maritime trainees have been successfully trained. The number of vessels under the Saudi flag increased by 80%. The Kingdom also supports female professionals through international workshops, empowering women in this vital sector.
Saudi Arabia hosted the second Sustainable Maritime Industry Conference on September 3-4, 2025. Organized by TGA, it attracted global maritime leaders to discuss technological and financial solutions for a sustainable industry. This conference highlights Saudi Arabia's dedication to strengthening international partnerships.
The Kingdom's strategic location connects three continents, advancing the National Transport and Logistics Strategy goals. It reinforces its role as a global logistics hub and a key gateway for international maritime trade.
