TGA Reports Over 950 Beneficiaries Of Autonomous Vehicle Service In Riyadh Expansion

The Transport General Authority (TGA) has announced the ongoing operation of its autonomous vehicle service in Riyadh. This initiative is in collaboration with Uber and WeRide, marking the initial phase of application. Since its launch, public interest has grown significantly, with over 950 passengers having experienced the service.

Autonomous vehicles currently operate on two specific routes: Roshn Front and Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University. Each location features multiple stations to facilitate passenger pick-up and drop-off. Safety officers are present in each vehicle to ensure safety standards are met and to monitor smart systems' performance under real conditions.

TGA's Autonomous Vehicle Service Surpasses 950 Users

This initiative is a key project for the TGA, aiming to advance smart and sustainable mobility solutions. It aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030 by adopting advanced technologies in the transport sector. The authority highlighted that this project is part of their efforts to enhance transportation infrastructure.

The TGA also mentioned plans for gradual expansion, which include adding more routes and destinations across Riyadh. By the end of this year, they aim to increase the fleet to over 20 autonomous vehicles. This expansion involves collaboration with several government entities such as the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, SDAIA, General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information, and SASO.

The public is encouraged to request an autonomous vehicle via the Uber app for a safe and intelligent travel experience that showcases the future of transport in Saudi Arabia. The TGA's operational plans are progressing towards broader coverage within Riyadh, reflecting a commitment to innovation in transportation.

This service operates under direct regulatory and technical supervision from the TGA. The presence of safety officers ensures adherence to high safety standards while monitoring smart systems' effectiveness in real-world scenarios. The initiative represents a significant step towards integrating cutting-edge technology into everyday transport solutions.

As part of its vision for future mobility, the TGA aims to provide a seamless travel experience through autonomous vehicles. This reflects a broader strategy to incorporate advanced technologies into Saudi Arabia's transport infrastructure, supporting sustainable development goals outlined in Vision 2030.
