TGA Invites Nominations For Nextwave Maritime Training Program With Bahri And IMO
The Transport General Authority (TGA), in collaboration with the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has invited nominations for maritime cadets from Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs). These cadets will participate in the Nextwave Pilot Training Program for the 2025–2026 cycle.
The program offers 20 cadets, both male and female, a six-month practical training aboard Saudi vessels operated by Bahri. This training provides essential sea time and experience needed for professional certification. The TGA and Bahri fully fund this initiative, covering all costs like accommodation, monthly stipends, airfare, visas, and daily allowances.

To encourage gender balance and inclusivity in the maritime sector, participating countries are urged to nominate one male and one female cadet each. This initiative addresses significant challenges faced by cadets in SIDS and LDCs, such as limited access to shipboard training and high certification costs.
Through comprehensive financial and practical support, the program aims to provide sustainable solutions. It also contributes to creating a long-term inclusive model for global maritime training. This aligns with Saudi Arabia's commitment to developing human capital and enhancing international cooperation in the maritime sector.
Bahri plays a crucial role as a strategic partner in ensuring the program's success. With its advanced fleet and extensive expertise in nurturing maritime talent, Bahri offers a world-class training environment. This partnership aims to prepare the next generation of seafarers with skills needed for success in the global maritime industry.
This initiative represents a strategic step towards addressing key challenges faced by cadets from SIDS and LDCs. By providing comprehensive support, it seeks to offer effective solutions while contributing to establishing an inclusive model for global maritime training.
The collaboration between TGA, Bahri, and IMO is expected to equip future seafarers with necessary skills and experience. This effort is part of Saudi Arabia's broader commitment to fostering international cooperation within the maritime sector.
