Tenth Arab Forum On Geographical Names Concludes In Jeddah Under Defence Minister's Patronage

The 10th Arab Forum on Geographical Names wrapped up recently in Saudi Arabia. Organised by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA), it was held under the patronage of Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense and Chairman of GEOSA's Board. The forum took place from November 10 to 12 in Jeddah, inaugurated by Governor Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi.

Saudi Arabia hosted this event to bolster joint Arab efforts, enhance cultural identity, and promote the exchange of ideas and experiences. The forum aimed to highlight the significance of geographical names, integrate them with modern technology, and stimulate research and innovation in this domain.

Arab Forum on Geographical Names Concludes

The theme "Strengthening Relationships and Links Between Arab States in the Field of Geographical Names" guided the discussions. Delegations from 22 Arab countries participated, alongside UN teams, specialised groups, and international organisations dedicated to geographical names.

The forum also included the 10th Forum of the Arab Division of Experts in Geographical Names. This segment resulted in several recommendations for member states based on various topics discussed during the sessions.

More than 120 research papers were presented across over 10 specialised scientific sessions. These sessions featured more than 70 speakers who shared diverse perspectives, experiences, and expertise related to geographical names.

An exhibition accompanied the forum, showcasing contributions from over 15 government, private, and non-profit organisations. Additionally, a scientific display featured more than 25 publications focused on geographical names.

The event served as a platform for experts to share insights and foster collaboration among Arab nations. By bringing together officials and specialists from various fields, it aimed to strengthen ties within the region regarding geographical naming conventions.

Overall, the forum successfully highlighted the importance of geographical names while encouraging innovation and integration with new technologies. It provided an opportunity for participants to engage in meaningful discussions about preserving cultural heritage through accurate naming practices.
