Team Abu Dhabi Eyes Comeback For Fifth Title At UIM F2 Championship In Norway

Team Abu Dhabi’s Rashed Al Qemzi aims to strengthen his bid for a fifth UIM F2 World Championship title as the series returns to Norway this weekend after a five-year hiatus. Following three days of intensive testing in Italy, defending champion Al Qemzi and teammate Mansoor Al Mansoori are eager to overcome a disappointing start in Brindisi last month, where technical issues plagued their performance.

Team manager Guido Cappellini and his mechanics have dedicated three days in San Nazzaro to ensure the drivers and their boats are in optimal condition for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Norway in Tønsberg. "It wasn’t the start we wanted, but that’s behind us now and we expect to be in a much better position to challenge for the win this weekend," said Al Qemzi, who managed a sixth-place finish in the first round, while Al Mansoori faced an early retirement.

Abu Dhabi Eyes UIM F2 Victory

Al Qemzi remains confident despite the fierce competition. "You could see in Brindisi that there are a lot of good drivers who want to win, and it will be very difficult for anyone to take the championship this year," he noted. "I want to be in a good position to go for the win on Sunday, and Mansoor wants to be there with me, fighting for the points. So, the first target is to be on the pace when qualifying starts on Saturday, and build from there."

Back in action after a long break from powerboat racing, Britain’s Matthew Palfreyman currently leads the championship standings, followed by Lithuania’s Edgaras Riabko and Portugal’s Duarte Benavente. Despite these strong competitors, Al Qemzi is determined to add another title to his collection.

"Everybody has been working very hard to make sure we have the chance to get the results we want and know we can achieve together," said Al Qemzi. "We know our team can get the best out of our boats, and as drivers, we have to make sure that we match their hard work and get the best out of ourselves."

Looking Forward

Al Qemzi finished second during the last championship visit to Tønsberg in 2019. He remains optimistic about his chances this season despite intense competition. The team is focused on ensuring they are well-prepared for qualifying on Saturday and aim to perform strongly throughout the weekend.

The upcoming race presents an opportunity for Team Abu Dhabi to bounce back from their initial setbacks. With rigorous preparation and determination, they hope to secure top positions and strengthen their championship campaign.

The Grand Prix of Norway will be crucial for both Al Qemzi and Al Mansoori as they strive for success amidst tough competition. Their efforts over recent days reflect their commitment to achieving their goals this season.

The team's dedication highlights their resolve to overcome challenges and aim for victory as they return to Norway's waters after several years.
