TDRA Supports Inclusive Digital Services Through National Accessibility Policy
In a significant move towards fostering an inclusive digital society, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has underscored the critical role of the National Digital Accessibility Policy. This policy, endorsed by the cabinet, aims to democratize access to digital services across all societal segments, notably including people of determination and senior citizens. The initiative is grounded in various international references and agreements, striving to eliminate barriers that prevent these individuals from fully benefiting from digital platforms and services.
The National Digital Accessibility Policy is a cornerstone of the UAE's commitment to prioritizing individuals in the design of services and policies. It aligns with The UAE Government Charter for Future Services, focusing on understanding customer needs and delivering proactive, seamless experiences that offer exceptional value to everyone, irrespective of their capabilities or social backgrounds. This approach not only advances the UAE's digital transformation leadership but also contributes significantly to sustainable development and achieving the humanitarian goals championed by the United Nations.

Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, TDRA Director-General, emphasized the policy's alignment with the 'We the UAE 2031' vision, which aims to establish an advanced social enabling system. This vision seeks to harness advanced digital technologies to create a dynamic, agile government ecosystem. "TDRA is confident that government entities will diligently implement this policy, fostering an environment where people of determination are empowered and valued," stated Al Mesmar.
Eng. Mohammad Al Zarooni, TDRA Deputy Director-General for the Information and Digital Government Sector, highlighted TDRA's role in ensuring the provision of suitable digital infrastructure. This includes developing a regulatory framework to achieve the policy’s objectives efficiently. The introduction of the UAE Design System 2.0 for government websites is a testament to this commitment, prioritizing accessibility in line with the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines and achieving ‘AA’ level compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.
Moreover, TDRA is enhancing Public-Private partnerships to boost investment in digital infrastructure and technology advancement. Such collaborations are crucial for accelerating digital transformation nationwide and achieving the inclusive objectives of the National Digital Accessibility Policy.
In partnership with federal and local government entities, TDRA is developing programs and initiatives aimed at improving digital accessibility. These efforts are designed to provide comprehensive and efficient digital government services that cater to all segments of society, ensuring inclusivity and equal access to essential services for people of determination and senior citizens.
This policy represents a significant step forward in creating an inclusive digital environment in the UAE, reflecting a broader commitment to ensuring that no member of society is left behind in the digital era.
