RTA Introduces New Taxi-Sharing Pilot Service Between Dubai And Abu Dhabi For Cost Savings

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has introduced a pilot taxi-sharing service. This service allows passengers to share rides between Ibn Battuta Centre in Dubai and Al Wahda Centre in Abu Dhabi. The initiative seeks to offer a convenient, quick, and cost-effective travel option. The pilot will run for six months, with potential expansion based on its success.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the Public Transport Agency of Dubai’s RTA, stated that the chosen locations were selected after careful analysis. "Ibn Battuta Centre in Dubai and Al Wahda Centre in Abu Dhabi were selected after a thorough analysis of potential routes for the shared taxi service between the two emirates," said Shakri. This initiative is designed to lower travel expenses, especially for those who frequently commute between these two cities.

RTA Launches Taxi-Sharing Service in UAE

Passengers can significantly reduce their travel costs by sharing taxis. When four people share a ride, each pays AED 66 instead of one person bearing the entire fare. This setup results in up to 75 percent savings per passenger. If two passengers share a taxi, each pays AED 132; with three passengers, the fare is AED 88 per person.

The RTA aims to alleviate traffic congestion through this initiative by encouraging shared rides. This approach not only reduces carbon emissions but also curtails unlicensed transport services. Passengers benefit from safe and smooth journeys in RTA taxis equipped with safety features like cameras linked to the Operations Control Centre and systems for monitoring driver performance.

Payment options for this service include bank cards or nol cards, providing flexibility for passengers. The initiative also enhances connectivity as both Ibn Battuta Centre and Al Wahda Centre are well-linked to public transport hubs and parking facilities.

This new service reflects RTA's commitment to offering sustainable transportation solutions while ensuring passenger comfort and safety during their travels across emirates.
