Tarshid Initiates Energy Retrofit Project At Yanbu University College To Achieve 16% Energy Savings

The National Energy Efficiency Services Company, known as Tarshid, has partnered with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu to initiate an energy retrofit project at Yanbu University College's male branch. This initiative focuses on improving energy efficiency across the college's buildings and facilities. The project aims to align with global standards by enhancing energy use and reducing consumption in all 13 buildings.

Tarshid's Managing Director and CEO, Waled Al-Ghreri, stated that field surveys and technical studies were conducted on the buildings involved in the project. These studies underscored the necessity of boosting energy efficiency and cutting down consumption. The company has pinpointed five primary standards for this improvement, which include control systems, air conditioning, lighting enhancements, cooling station management systems, and smart motion sensors for lighting control.

One of the key aspects of the project involves upgrading the lighting systems. Traditional lighting will be replaced with energy-efficient LED systems that are better suited for operational environments. This change is part of a broader strategy to reduce annual electricity consumption from about 15 million kilowatt-hours to 12 million kilowatt-hours, marking a reduction of roughly 16%.

The anticipated decrease in electricity usage is expected to save more than 3,900 barrels of oil equivalent annually. Additionally, it will prevent approximately 1,400 metric tons of harmful carbon emissions from being released into the atmosphere. According to Tarshid's release, this environmental benefit is akin to planting over 23,000 seedlings each year.

Tarshid has expressed its dedication to supporting Saudi Arabia's strategic sustainability goals as outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. This vision aims for substantial energy savings and a reduction in carbon emissions across the Kingdom. By implementing these measures at Yanbu University College, Tarshid contributes significantly towards achieving these national objectives.

The project not only focuses on immediate energy savings but also aligns with long-term sustainability goals. By integrating advanced technologies like smart motion sensors and efficient cooling management systems, Tarshid ensures that energy use is optimized while maintaining comfort and functionality within the college's facilities.
