TAQA Energy Services Completes Third Phase Of Solar Project At UAE University Campus
TAQA Energy Services, a branch of the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), has finalised the third phase of a significant solar project at the United Arab Emirates University's (UAEU) campus. This development involves 14,400 advanced solar panels covering 84,000 square metres. These panels are set to produce 18.7 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy annually, meeting 30% of the university's electricity needs and reducing carbon emissions by over 8,000 tonnes each year.
The collaboration between TAQA Energy Services and UAEU highlights the university's leadership in sustainable practices. It also showcases TAQA's expertise in project management, from site evaluation to installation and grid integration. The initiative's first phase achieved a 27% reduction in energy consumption by retrofitting selected buildings on campus. The second phase expanded these efficiencies to more facilities within Al Ain Campus.

Khalid Mohamed Al Qubaisi, CEO of TAQA Energy Services, stated, "Our ongoing partnership with the UAEU for the country's largest solar project at an educational institution signifies a transformative journey towards sustainability and innovation. This landmark solar power project epitomises our dedication to bolstering our contribution towards the UAE's 2030 vision for a sustainable and energy-efficient future."
Prof Ahmed Ali Alraeesi, Acting Vice Chancellor of UAEU, expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration. He said, "Collaborating with TAQA Energy Services on this pioneering solar initiative marks a significant step toward our sustainability goals. This project not only powers our campus with clean energy but also inspires our students to lead the charge toward a greener, more resilient future."
The completion of this third phase is a crucial milestone in Abu Dhabi's shift towards sustainable energy solutions. Since its establishment in January 2020, TAQA Energy Services has been instrumental in transforming Abu Dhabi's power and water sectors through innovative approaches.
This solar initiative at UAEU exemplifies how educational institutions can play a pivotal role in promoting sustainability while providing practical learning opportunities for students. By integrating clean energy solutions into their infrastructure, universities like UAEU are setting examples for future generations.
As part of its broader mission, TAQA Energy Services continues to drive advancements in renewable energy technologies across various sectors. Their efforts align with national goals for reducing carbon footprints and enhancing energy efficiency throughout the region.
