Tadej Pogačar Triumphs On Jebel Jais To Take Lead In UAE Tour
Tadej Pogačar clinched victory at the Jebel Jais Mountain during stage 3 of the UAE Tour, marking his second win on this climb. The Slovenian cyclist surged ahead in a sprint finish among top climbers, securing the race lead for UAE Team Emirates-XRG. His decisive move in the final metres ensured he crossed the line first, echoing his triumph from 2022.
Josh Tarling of Ineos Grenadiers initially held the red jersey but now trails Pogačar by 18 seconds. Despite a strong effort, Tarling couldn't maintain his lead. The stage also highlighted UAE Team Emirates-XRG's success with Colnago’s new Y1Rs bike, designed for aerodynamics and speed, which proved effective on Jebel Jais.

Throughout the stage, Pogačar's teammates played crucial roles. Rune Herregodts led much of the race, setting a challenging pace. Mikkel Bjerg took over on Jebel Jais, maintaining a relentless tempo that saw many competitors fall behind. His efforts were instrumental in setting up Pogačar’s final attack.
As Bjerg's turn ended with 4.3km remaining, Domen Novak increased the speed further. Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale briefly took charge but couldn't sustain it. Jay Vine then propelled Pogačar to the front with just over a kilometre left, paving the way for his teammate’s victorious sprint.
Pogačar expressed satisfaction with his team's performance: "It feels amazing to finally be back racing and to have a victory after three days. We did a perfect job; it was a hard day for the guys to control the race because it was long and we had no help whatsoever until the final climb." He praised his teammates' dedication throughout the challenging stage.
The Slovenian cyclist celebrated not only his win but also wearing the rainbow jersey while doing so. He acknowledged Herregodts’ significant contribution: "Rune [Herregodts] was really good at pulling all day." The team’s strategy and execution were key to their success on this demanding course.
Strategic Execution
The strategic execution by UAE Team Emirates-XRG was evident as they controlled much of the race. Bjerg’s solo effort from 13.2km onwards demonstrated immense strength and determination. His consistent pace helped position Pogačar perfectly for his final push towards victory.
In those last few hundred metres, Vine stepped aside after guiding Pogačar into prime position. This allowed Pogačar to unleash his sprint and secure both stage victory and overall lead in style.
Pogačar’s triumph atop Jebel Jais not only showcased individual brilliance but also underscored teamwork's importance in cycling success. The win was celebrated by UAE Team Emirates-XRG as they continue their campaign in this prestigious tour.
