Tadej Pogačar Claims Tour De France Yellow Jersey Following Impressive Time Trial Performance
Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG secured second place in the 33km individual time trial, gaining over a minute on many general classification competitors. This performance in stage 5 of the Tour de France allowed him to don the Yellow Jersey for the first time this year. Only Remco Evenepoel from Soudal Quick-Step outperformed him on this course.
Pogačar finished just 16 seconds behind Evenepoel, who is the world champion in time trials. With a time of 36:58, Pogačar not only claimed second place in stage 5 but also took the overall lead. He now holds a 42-second advantage over Evenepoel, who is in second place.

In addition to wearing Yellow, Pogačar leads both the King of the Mountains and Points classifications as he approaches stage 6. Reflecting on his performance, he expressed satisfaction and shifted focus to upcoming stages. His teammate João Almeida also performed well, finishing eighth and securing seventh in the general classification.
Team Strategy
Almeida's strong season continues, with less than two minutes separating him from Pogačar. At 26 years old, Almeida remains a vital asset for UAE Team Emirates-XRG as they advance further into the race. His position will be crucial for strategic plays by the Emirati team.
After this initial time trial test in this year's Tour de France, Pogačar holds a lead of over one minute over Jonas Vingegaard from Visma-Lease a Bike, who sits fourth overall. Vingegaard trails by 1:13 behind Pogačar. Meanwhile, Kévin Vauquelin from Arkéa-B&B Hotels delivered an impressive time trial to secure third place overall.
The competition remains intense as riders continue to vie for top positions in the Tour de France. The coming stages promise more challenges and opportunities for shifts in leadership among these elite cyclists.
