Tadej Pogačar Maintains Strong Lead Finishing Third In Final Tour De France Mountain Stage
In the final mountain stage of this year's Tour de France, Tadej Pogačar maintained his grip on the Yellow Jersey. At La Plagne, he finished third, setting a pace that deterred any attacks during the last climb. Jonas Vingegaard managed to sprint past him for second place, while Thymen Arensman claimed victory with a bold move from the GC group.
Pogačar's strategy was to maintain a steady pace up the final ascent to La Plagne. He did not pursue Arensman or react to his decisive attack. This approach allowed him to finish with a lead of over four minutes in the race standings. With only two stages left, Pogačar is on track for his fourth Tour de France win.

The Slovenian cyclist secured third place for the day and now focuses on the remaining stages. Despite his significant lead in the General Classification (GC), Pogačar remains cautious. In his post-race comments, he emphasised that this is not a moment for complacency.
Pogačar remarked, "We did a very good job until the last climb, and then some teams and riders think they can sprint the 19km of the climb. The pace was incredibly high at the start and then I was thinking that maybe Jonas [Vingegaard] would want to win the stage also. But in the end, he was just holding on to my wheel."
Thymen Arensman's triumph marked him as the sole rider to secure stage wins in both the Pyrenees and Alps during this Tour. His aggressive tactics paid off as he distanced himself from competitors with an impressive attack.
As Pogačar continues towards potential victory, his performance at La Plagne underscores his dominance. The UAE Team Emirates-XRG leader has shown resilience and strategic acumen throughout this challenging race.
The upcoming stages will test Pogačar's endurance and strategy further. However, with his current advantage, he appears well-positioned to claim another Tour de France title.
