Syrian Calligrapher Mohammad Maher Hadri Inscribes The Holy Quran On Fabric Over Twelve Years

Syrian calligrapher Mohammad Maher Hadri has dedicated 12 years to crafting an extraordinary piece of art by inscribing the Holy Quran onto fabric. This unique endeavour, which began in 1998 and concluded in 2010, showcases his expertise in calligraphy and weaving. His work is now featured at the Riyadh International Book Fair 2025, marking a significant milestone in his artistic journey.

Hadri's project involved dividing the Quran into sections, each measuring 80 cm by 60 cm, resulting in 12 volumes that weigh nearly 200 kilograms. This intricate creation not only highlights the beauty of the Quran but also enhances appreciation for its preservation. The calligrapher first displayed his work internationally in 2012, receiving widespread acclaim.

The Riyadh International Book Fair 2025 provides Hadri with a platform to present his work in Saudi Arabia, fulfilling a long-held aspiration. "I had long aspired to present my work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has now been realized this year through my participation in the Riyadh International Book Fair 2025, organized by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission," he expressed.

Hadri's journey into Arabic calligraphy began with copying the Holy Quran on paper. This practice honed his skills before he transitioned to fabric, compiling it into a bound volume over eight years. His dedication to this craft is evident in every detail of his work.

In addition to inscribing the Quran, Hadri's experience includes writing 40 Hadiths and several counsels from Luqman the Wise. He also incorporated a selection of Quranic supplications (dua) into his fabric creations. These additions further demonstrate his commitment to preserving Islamic heritage through art.

The calligrapher's work has been exhibited at numerous fairs, drawing admiration from visitors worldwide. "I have exhibited this copy of the Holy Quran at numerous fairs, where it received significant attention and admiration from visitors," he noted.

Hadri's innovative approach to calligraphy has earned him recognition as the first artist to inscribe Quranic verses onto fabric using both brush and pen techniques. His meticulous craftsmanship continues to inspire appreciation for Islamic art and culture globally.
