60% Of Riyadh Residents Will Use Metro For Work And Schools: Survey
The introduction of the Riyadh Metro network marks a significant milestone in enhancing the city's public transport system. It is designed to revolutionize urban mobility by providing a sustainable and efficient alternative to private vehicle use, thus reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollution.
The ripple effects of the Riyadh Metro on urban life are profound. By facilitating easy access to key destinations such as schools, universities, hospitals, commercial hubs, and government offices, the metro network will significantly enhance daily life for Riyadh's residents.

A recent study by the National Center for Public Opinion Polls, a branch of the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue in Riyadh, revealed that a majority of the city's residents are inclined towards using the metro and other public transportation for their daily commutes to work or school.
This survey, which involved 1,202 participants, including a balanced demographic of 57% males and 43% females, underscores a significant shift in commuting preferences among Riyadh's population.
The findings indicate an optimistic outlook towards the metro system's influence on the city, with 71% of respondents expecting it to alter their travel habits significantly. Furthermore, a substantial 80% predict the metro will draw more investments to Riyadh, highlighting the economic potential of improved public transportation. Another crucial aspect revealed by the survey is the anticipated positive impact on traffic reduction and environmental benefits, with 81% and 83% of participants, respectively, supporting these views.
The preferences of Riyadh's residents regarding metro use were also explored, showcasing a diverse range of intended uses for the metro. Entertainment venues emerged as the top destination for 30% of respondents, followed by 24% who look forward to shopping trips via the metro. Additionally, 15% of those surveyed expressed their plans to use the metro for visiting family and friends, indicating a broad spectrum of activities that could be facilitated by the metro’s operation.
When it comes to what Riyadh’s citizens value most about the metro service, proximity of stations to their homes or workplaces was the top priority for 40 percent of respondents. Other significant factors included the system's speed, prioritized by 27%, safety concerns, highlighted by 22%, and measures to prevent harassment, which was important to 11% of those surveyed.
The National Center for Public Opinion Polls, recognized as the first officially accredited center for conducting public opinion surveys in the Kingdom, strives to foster a culture of dialogue on various societal issues. It aims to provide government agencies with reliable and scientifically obtained data to inform decision-making processes.
