Suqia UAE's Tanzania Projects Exceed Goals, Providing Clean Water To Over One Million People

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE), announced that the foundation's initiatives in Tanzania have surpassed their goals. These projects, supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, have provided clean drinking water to 1,024,000 people across various regions and villages. The Emirates Red Crescent collaborated on these efforts by digging new artesian wells and maintaining existing ones.

During the third Board of Trustees meeting in 2025, Al Tayer highlighted Suqia’s dedication to enhancing the UAE’s global humanitarian role. He noted that since its inception in 2015, Suqia has helped around 15 million people in 37 countries. The foundation focuses on easing the plight of communities facing water shortages and encourages innovation for sustainable solutions to water scarcity.

The meeting also covered plans to launch the fifth cycle of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award later this year. Suqia oversees this award, which offers total prizes worth US$1 million. It aims to encourage innovative projects and technologies that produce, desalinate, and purify water using renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.

Al Tayer chaired this meeting attended by several key figures including Dr Sultan Rashid Al Ketbi from Emirates Red Crescent and Prof Ebrahim Al Hajri from Khalifa University. Other attendees included Prof Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi from UAE University and Nasser Lootah from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). Waleed bin Salman, Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, and Saoud Aziz Ali Ghalib were also present.

Suqia UAE is committed to working with partners both locally and internationally to implement humanitarian projects that provide clean water to those in need. The foundation's sustainable projects aim to alleviate suffering caused by the global water crisis while fostering innovation in finding long-term solutions.

The announcement about Tanzania’s successful projects was made during a significant meeting focused on future initiatives. This reflects Suqia’s ongoing efforts to address water scarcity through collaborative projects that benefit millions worldwide.
