Sultan's Nurturing Approach Cultivates Future Leaders: Insights From Jawaher Al Qasimi
H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of Rubu' Qarn for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators, attended the closing session of the 17th Sharjah Children's Shura Council and the 8th Sharjah Youth Shura Council. This event took place at the Sharjah Consultative Council headquarters, with several government representatives in attendance.
Her Highness expressed pride in the contributions made by council members who shared ideas with government representatives. "I congratulate you on participating in this integrated parliamentary experience," she stated. This initiative aims to enhance responsibility in children and build citizens aware of their rights and duties, representing their national identity for future generations.
The session focused on AI's role in local legislation. Her Highness stressed developing an ethical charter and legal framework to oversee AI use. She highlighted potential impacts on privacy and security, emphasising AI as a partner in shaping society's future by enhancing skills to drive progress.
Sheikha Jawaher noted that individuals are at a crucial life stage where they develop skills for future leadership roles. These leaders are expected to represent society, listen to its needs, and support legislative processes benefiting the emirate. The emphasis should be on serving society from a duty perspective.
Membership in the council should not be seen as a way to earn titles or media attention; instead, it should focus on contributing to society's development. Decisions should be guided by continuous learning, as highlighted by the Ruler of Sharjah, recognising technology's importance in engaging with digital advancements.
Madiya Saif Al Tunaiji, Chairperson of the Sharjah Children's Shura Council, emphasised that the council addresses issues pertinent to children. She highlighted AI's role in enhancing children's skills and thanked Sheikha Jawaher for her support. Meanwhile, Al Jazia Ahmed Al Zaabi from the Youth Shura Council stressed AI's importance while upholding human values.
Preserving Identity and Collaboration
The discussions also covered preserving Emirati identity and enhancing collaboration between "Digital Sharjah" and "Child Safety." A clear ethical framework governing AI was deemed necessary due to its implications for the job market. Members emphasised values and legislation related to AI during these discussions.
Government representatives responded by highlighting the need for awareness about AI's ethical use. They praised state initiatives supporting youth efforts to understand this technology's technical and ethical aspects. The focus remains on preparing for significant changes brought by technological advancements.
The councils serve as platforms for addressing children's issues while fostering awareness about values through AI. The event underscored ongoing efforts to adapt to technological shifts while maintaining cultural identity and ethical standards within society.
