Sultan Bin Ahmed Witnesses Signing Of Data Centre MoU To Boost Sharjah's Digital Transformation
H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Communication Technologies Authority (SCTA), was present at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement involves the Sharjah Communication and Technology Authority, BEEAH Group, and Khazna Data Centre. The MOU aims to establish data centres in selected locations across Sharjah.
The largest Tier III data centre will be located at the Sharjah Free Zone for Communication Technologies (ComTec) in Kalba. The MOU was signed at BEEAH’s headquarters by Khaled Al Huraimel, CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH, Hassan Al Naqbi, CEO of Khazna Data Centres, and Rashid Al Ali, Executive Director of the Sharjah Communication and Technology Authority.
This initiative is designed to boost Sharjah’s digital infrastructure and drive digital transformation. It aims to create innovative communication solutions while exploring renewable energy sources for the data centres. The project will set new sustainability benchmarks for the industry.
Khazna Data Centres will focus on developing facilities that model sustainable, advanced digital infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Sharjah Communication and Technology Authority will provide regulatory support, allocate land, and establish energy infrastructure. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in enhancing Sharjah’s digital and cloud service infrastructure.
The initiative positions Kalba’s free zone as a potential global hub for artificial intelligence. It also strengthens BEEAH’s role in sustainable data centre development, building on its achievements in sustainability and digital transformation.
During the signing event, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi visited an art exhibition titled "Women’s Work: From Handicrafts to Fine Arts—Reviving Arab Textile Arts." This exhibition is a partnership with the Barjeel Art Foundation and showcases works blending handicrafts with fine arts.
Present at the signing were Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah Digital Department; Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority; Engineer Hamad Jumaa Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Planning and Survey Department; Saeed Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority; along with other senior officials.
This project represents a forward step for Sharjah's technological landscape. By integrating sustainable practices with cutting-edge technology solutions, it sets a precedent for future developments in digital infrastructure within the region.
