Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Celebrates Champions Of World Powerboat Championship In Sharjah

The 23rd "Sharjah Grand Prix" concluded on 8th December 2024, with H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi crowning the champions. The event, held at Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah, was part of the "Sharjah World Championships Week." It was organised by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority alongside the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club.

Nineteen top drivers from around the globe competed in this prestigious event. The competition also included the crowning of the 2024 World Championship winners in the World Powerboat Championship (WPC). A large audience of powerboat racing fans witnessed the thrilling final race, which featured intense competition among teams.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed attended part of the final race, which spanned 32 laps over a distance of 2.05 kilometres. At its conclusion, he honoured the winners of both the "Sharjah Grand Prix" and the WPC. Jonas Andersson, driving boat number "1" for "Team Vietnam," emerged as the champion.

Rusty Wyatt secured second place piloting boat number "17" for "Team Sharjah," while Erik Stark claimed third place with boat number "4" for "Victory Team." Following these presentations, Sheikh Sultan handed over the championship flag for the upcoming 2025 season to Indonesia.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan presented commemorative gifts to Raphaele Chiulli, President of the International Powerboat Federation, and Nicolò di San Germano, global promoter of the championship. These gestures acknowledged their contributions to promoting powerboat racing worldwide.

Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, chairman of both organising bodies, presented a commemorative gift to Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed. This token recognised his attendance and role in honouring the winners at this significant event.

The crowning ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi and Sheikh Majid bin Sultan bin Saqer Al Qasimi. Other officials and representatives from local marine sports clubs and international organisations were also present.
