Sultan Bin Ahmed Initiates Al Reeh Al Mursalah Village Foundation To Support Humanitarian Efforts In Sri Lanka

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, emphasised the significance of charitable projects in Sri Lanka. These initiatives are a result of collaboration between the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and Sharjah Charity International. They align with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, who advocates for aiding those in need globally.

The foundation stone for "Al Reeh Al Mursalah" Village was laid by H.H. Sheikh Sultan in Sri Lanka's Puttalam region. This village will be constructed with support from the "Al Reeh Al Mursalah" programme by the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority. The project includes 50 homes, a mosque, a health centre, and facilities powered by solar energy to ensure sustainability.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan expressed gratitude to all organisations and individuals contributing to humanitarian work. He highlighted that these efforts reflect positively on the UAE and Sharjah's commitment to global goodwill and solidarity. The projects aim to support family stability, meet basic needs, and enhance future opportunities for communities.

The village will also feature a children's park, a sewing centre with training workshops, and an artesian well for clean water supply. Employment opportunities and medical care will be provided to villagers, promoting self-reliance and community development.

A mobile medical clinic was inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Sultan to offer emergency services and routine check-ups for villagers and nearby communities. The clinic is designed for easy mobility across regions, equipped with necessary supplies under a trained medical team’s supervision.

The clinic ensures access to healthcare for remote areas, addressing common local conditions effectively. This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve living standards through accessible medical services.

Impact of "Al Reeh Al Mursalah" Programme

Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, stated that the charitable projects in Sri Lanka stem from the "Al Reeh Al Mursalah" programme broadcasted through their channels. This programme enables benefactors to support various humanitarian initiatives like villages, mosques, hospitals, and more.

The programme has raised approximately AED67 million over 14 years for diverse projects including children’s medical treatment, eye surgeries, mosque construction, schools, medical centres, orphan sponsorships, residential villages, well digging, and productive projects benefiting recipients.

Collaboration Between Organisations

Khalaf highlighted the cooperation between the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority and Sharjah Charity International as an exemplary model of joint humanitarian work. This partnership embodies Sharjah’s approach in reaching out globally to deliver aid effectively.

This collaboration strengthens solidarity values and opens new avenues for comprehensive humanitarian initiatives worldwide. Field visits motivate intensified efforts by allowing workers to assess families' needs directly.

Logistical Support for Villagers

The Chairman reviewed logistical supplies distributed among villagers such as food items, sewing machines, bicycles, and wheelchairs. These resources help generate sustainable income for families while securing employment opportunities within their communities.

The radio programme "Al Reeh Al Mursalah," aired annually during Ramadan in cooperation with Sharjah Charity International showcases numerous charitable campaigns encouraging donor contributions across 110 countries covered by their projects.

Accompanying H.H. Sheikh Sultan were Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi; Khaled Nasser Al Ameri; Mohamed Hassan Khalaf; Tariq Saeed Allay; Hassan Yaqoub Al Mansouri; along with senior officials from the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.
