University Of Sharjah Board Of Trustees 60th Meeting Chaired By Sultan Bin Ahmed
The Board of Trustees of the University of Sharjah approved a package of academic, research, and organisational decisions during its 60th meeting, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi. The resolutions covered new artificial intelligence programmes, revised study plans, governance updates, and the graduation of more than 1,600 students.
H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, welcomed Board members at the university office and commended their sustained efforts. H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed highlighted that these efforts supported academic, research, and administrative development, helping the institution maintain strong positions across international rankings.
The Board endorsed several new degree tracks designed to align with rapid technological change and labour market demand. Among the approved programmes are a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, PhD in Digital Transformation, Doctorate Residency in Dentistry, MSc in Artificial Intelligence for Biomedical Applications and Healthcare, BSc in Artificial Intelligence, and MSc in Quantum Science and Technology.
Members agreed to establish a Centre for Artificial Intelligence Applications at the University of Sharjah. The centre will focus on applied research and practical AI deployment in teaching and scientific projects. The Board also ratified a Strategic Partnerships Office to coordinate long-term collaborations with external partners, consistent with the university’s mission and strategic plan.

The 60th meeting approved amendments to the General Education Programme and adopted a refreshed governance framework and organisational structure. These changes aim to strengthen transparency, decision-making processes, and review mechanisms at different administrative levels. The Board also agreed to shorten the Bachelor’s programme in Oral and Dental Medicine and Surgery to five years.
Board members examined detailed reports on research performance, new research centres, and continuous development of the research ecosystem. They reviewed national and global rankings and accreditations, alongside the updated University Strategy 2024–2030 (EDGE). The strategy focuses on Emiratisation, digital transformation, international cooperation, and encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship among students and graduates.
University of Sharjah graduation decisions and academic promotions
The Board approved the graduation of students who completed degree requirements by the end of Summer Semester 2024–2025 and Fall Semester 2025–2026. A total of 1,607 students graduated, including 1,213 bachelor’s degree graduates, 4 postgraduate diploma graduates, 314 master’s graduates and 76 doctoral graduates across different academic disciplines.

During the same session, the Board of Trustees confirmed academic promotions for 21 faculty members at the University of Sharjah. The promotions covered 11 academics rising to the rank of Professor and 10 advancing to Associate Professor. Members also discussed external review findings, internal audit outcomes, risk management updates, and Emiratisation indicators within the 2024–2030 strategy.
University of Sharjah institutional performance and international presence
Professor Dr Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, presented a comprehensive performance report to the Board. The report addressed progress on the strategic plan, expansion of infrastructure, institutional capacity-building, and community engagement. It also covered the university’s local partnerships, regional cooperation, and international relations with scientific and academic institutions.
The meeting gathered senior officials from Sharjah and partner entities, including Dr Mansour bin Nassar, Chairman of the Legal Department of Sharjah, and Saeed Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority. Other attendees included Dr Muhadditha Al Hashemi, Mohammed Abdullah, Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Dr Obaid bin Butti Al Mehairi, and Khawla Abdulrahman Al Mulla.
International representation at the University of Sharjah meeting included Jacques Fremont, President of the University of Ottawa, and Alexander Kuleshov, President of Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. Participants also included Mohd Hamdi Abdul Shukor, Paul O’Brien, Martin Barstow, Kamal Yousef El Tumi, Dr Osama Khatib, and Tan Eng Chye, reflecting broad academic engagement.
Across its decisions, the Board of Trustees of the University of Sharjah reinforced a strategy that links new programmes, research centres, and governance reforms to labour market needs and technological change. The approved initiatives, promotions, and partnerships are set within the 2024–2030 EDGE framework and support the university’s regional and international role.
