Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi Praises Egypt’s Islamic Cultural Centre During Visit
H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, recently visited Egypt’s Islamic Cultural Centre in Cairo's New Administrative Capital. The centre covers a vast area of 467,000 square meters. Upon arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, the Egyptian Minister of Awqaf, Counselor Adnan Fanjari, the Egyptian Minister of Justice, and Eng. Khaled Abbas, Chairman of the Administrative Capital for Urban Development.
H.H. Sheikh Sultan expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and praised the centre's services. He noted that these services reflect Egypt's dedication to Islamic culture and its role in promoting Islamic values globally. This effort strengthens the status of Islam both regionally and internationally.
The Deputy Ruler commended the centre's architectural designs that merge heritage with modern creativity. He highlighted the exceptional religious facilities, describing the centre as a comprehensive environment serving Islam and Muslims. It promotes virtuous values and enhances mosques' cultural roles.
During his visit, H.H. Sheikh Sultan stopped at an observation deck overlooking the Government District. This spot offers a unique view of the Presidential Palace and legislative authorities. He received a briefing on the centre's location and design, which combines modern Islamic style with traditional Egyptian architecture like the Mamluk style.
He then visited the House of the Quran beneath the mosque’s plaza. Here, he learned about its Readers' Room displaying personal belongings of Egypt’s renowned Quranic reciters such as Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husari, Sheikh Taha Al-Fashni, and Sheikh Mustafa Ismail.
Walking through corridors adorned with Quranic verses led him to Quranic halls. Each of these 30 rooms is dedicated to a specific part of the Quran, with walls engraved with that section's text. Audio devices are available for listening to recitations to aid memorisation.
The Grand Mosque of Egypt
H.H. Sheikh Sultan concluded his visit at the Grand Mosque of Egypt, which is notably large in scale. It can accommodate 12,000 worshippers inside and has a total capacity for approximately 137,000 people. The mosque features two minarets each standing 148 meters tall and a main dome with a diameter of 29.5 meters weighing 500 tonnes.
The mosque also boasts 20 smaller domes and holds a Guinness World Record for having the largest wooden minbar in existence.
H.H.'s visit underscored Egypt's commitment to preserving Islamic heritage while embracing modernity in architectural design.
