Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi Opens The 14th Sharjah Lights Festival Celebrating Art And Culture

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the 14th Sharjah Lights Festival. Organised by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, this event runs from February 5 to 16 across 12 locations in Sharjah. The festival highlights the emirate's cultural and architectural beauty through captivating light displays.

The opening ceremony began with the UAE national anthem, followed by a visual presentation. This showcased the festival's journey since its inception in 2011, highlighting its artistic displays and success in attracting a diverse audience. The event was attended by several dignitaries and artists.

This year's festival features spectacular light shows at various locations, including "The Journey of the Light of Knowledge and Art." This transforms the Sharjah Mosque into a canvas of living paintings, symbolising harmony between humanity, art, and nature. Another highlight is "The Story of the Valley," exploring themes like ancient settlements and storytelling.

Additionally, "Light of the East" brings to life Khorfakkan's tale through dynamic 3D projections. Shows like "Dream of Nekisos" offer more dazzling displays. These performances blend art with technology, providing immersive visual experiences that captivate audiences.

The festival plays a crucial role in supporting small and medium-sized national businesses through initiatives like the "Village of Lights." With over 70 local projects participating, it serves as a platform for creators to showcase innovative light experiences. Each display conveys unique stories and impactful messages.

Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, expressed gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi for attending the opening ceremony. He praised H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi’s leadership for prioritising people's well-being and supporting all sectors.

New Locations and Cultural Significance

This edition introduces new locations such as the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park, Al Heera Beach, Al Hefaiyah Lake, Aljada area, among others. These sites highlight Sharjah's rich cultural heritage through artistic displays that emphasise its iconic landmarks' beauty.

The festival also includes international artists showcasing their unique visions. Celebrating creativity, it attracts thousands of visitors locally and internationally each year. It has become a key highlight in Sharjah’s cultural calendar.

Interactive Experiences at Village of Lights

The "Village of Lights," running until February 23, offers an interactive programme with various pavilions like the Museum of Lights. Visitors can enjoy events, activities, and games for families and children while engaging with local entrepreneurs offering diverse experiences.

This vibrant village fosters local entrepreneurship through food stalls and retail projects catering to visitors' interests. It serves as an interactive platform for public engagement while supporting economic growth within the emirate.
