Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City Partners With US Pennington Biomedical For Obesity Treatment Centre

Sultan bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the US-based Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana. This partnership aims to establish a specialised centre dedicated to obesity prevention, treatment, and management. The collaboration will focus on adopting cutting-edge technologies and methods in obesity medicine, including advanced surgery, pharmacotherapy, dietary management, rehabilitation, and lifestyle management.

The MoU marks a significant step towards enhancing healthcare services in Saudi Arabia, aligning with the Saudi Vision 2030. Prince Faisal bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Secretary General of the Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Charity Foundation, highlighted the importance of such agreements in advancing the Kingdom's healthcare system. He emphasised that this collaboration will provide specialised health services for obesity prevention and treatment.

New Partnership for Obesity Treatment Services

Prince Faisal noted that partnering with Pennington Biomedical will enhance care quality for patients dealing with severe obesity and complex conditions. The MoU is expected to deliver integrated solutions that adhere to the highest global standards of quality and safety. He underscored that obesity poses an increasing threat to public health in modern societies.

This partnership aims to establish a regional and global hub for research, studies, and training in obesity management. It will serve as a source of advanced expertise and comprehensive care for surgeons and specialists. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by Sultan bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City to combat obesity and improve public health through integrated prevention and treatment services.

Bariatric surgery at the facility has already shown promising results by eliminating diabetes in over 60 percent of cases. This achievement underscores the potential impact of comprehensive obesity management strategies. The new centre will further enhance these efforts by offering state-of-the-art services and expertise.

The MoU with Pennington Biomedical represents a strategic move towards addressing obesity-related challenges effectively. By leveraging advanced research on cells, tissues, gene biology, and complex diseases, the partnership aims to provide innovative solutions tailored to patients' needs.
