Sultan Al Qasimi Celebrates Winners At Closing Ceremony Of 34th Sharjah Theatre Days
H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, graced the closing ceremony of the 34th Sharjah Theatre Days at the Cultural Palace. The event celebrated outstanding achievements in theatre, recognising exceptional talents and contributions to the arts.
The Sharjah Award for Playwriting in the "texts for adults" category saw Omani writer Osama bin Zayed clinch first place with "That Dream of Yesterday". Following him, Naeem Fath Mabrouk from Oman secured second place for "Neighing of Sins", while Kuwaiti writer Musa Bahman took third place with "A Wish of Death".
The 34th edition of the Sharjah Theatre Days Awards honoured various artists and productions. The Best Integrated Theatrical Performance was awarded to "Baba" by the Sharjah National Theatre Company. Abdul Rahman Al Mulla received the Best Theatrical Direction award for his work on "Screams from the Abyss" by the Kalba Society for Folk Arts and Heritage.
In acting categories, Ahmed Al Jasmi won Best Leading Actor for his role in "Baba", while Abeer Al Jasmi was named Best Leading Actress for her performance in "Screams from the Abyss". Mahmoud Al Qattan earned Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Elkat Saleh", and Badriya Al Ali was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her part in "Brides of Fire".
Kazem Jawad was recognised as Best Promising Actor for his performance in "Baba", while Khawla Abdul Salam received the Best Promising Actress Award for her role in "Elkat Saleh". These awards highlight emerging talents within the theatre community.
Technical excellence was also celebrated. Abdullah Al Hammadi won Best Set Design for "Heel and Half Shoe" by Yas Arts, Culture and Theatre Association. Khaled Bashir's lighting work on "Screams from the Abyss" earned him an award, while Ibrahim Al Amiri's music composition and sound effects in "Baba" were also recognised.
Acknowledging Creative Contributions
Nasra Al Maamari received the Best Makeup Award for her work on "Brides of Fire". Mariam Sameh was honoured with the Best Costumes and Accessories Award for her designs in "Jur Mihrathak" by Dibba Al Hisn Theatre. These awards underscore the importance of creative contributions behind-the-scenes.
Amani Balalaj's role in "Baba" earned her the Distinguished Arab Artist Award, showcasing her significant impact on stage. Additionally, Modern Theatre's play "Elkat Saleh" received a Special Jury Award, highlighting its unique contribution to this year's festival.
The ceremony attracted notable attendees including Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ruler's Office; Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture; Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of Protocol and Hospitality; alongside senior officials, artists, intellectuals, specialists, media professionals, and theatre enthusiasts.
